How to Choose Your Perfect Handloom Saree

How to Choose Your Perfect Handloom Saree

With so many weaves, colours and price points, choosing a handloom saree can feel like a beautiful kind of overwhelm. Every piece has its own character, and the "right" one is different for everyone. Here is how we help our customers find the saree that feels made for them.

Start with the occasion

Let the moment guide the weave. A pure-silk Paithani, Kanjeevaram or Benarasi carries the grandeur that a wedding or festival calls for, with rich zari and a regal presence. For work, travel and everyday elegance, a soft cotton, linen or silk-cotton drapes effortlessly and wears comfortably through the day. Simply knowing where you will wear a saree narrows the field almost instantly.

Get to know the weave

Each region of India has its own signature. There is the gold-and-silk brocade of Benaras, the peacock-and-lotus motifs of Paithani, the temple borders of Gadwal, the airy transparency of Chanderi and the rustic warmth of Tussar. Once you recognise the weaves you are naturally drawn to, choosing becomes a pleasure rather than a puzzle. Our Shop by Weave edit is the easiest place to begin exploring.

Consider fabric, drape and the wearer

Fabric changes everything about how a saree feels and falls. Heavier silks hold their structure and sculpt a regal silhouette; lighter weaves fall soft and fluid and are wonderfully easy to carry, especially for first-time wearers. Length, width and weight vary from piece to piece — all of which we list on every product page, so you know exactly what you are draping before it ever arrives.

Mind the colour

Colours read differently in daylight and indoors, and on a screen versus in person. We photograph our sarees as faithfully as we possibly can, but slight variation is natural — particularly with the rich, hand-dyed tones of true handloom. If a precise shade matters to you, message us and we will describe it honestly before you buy.

Remember, each piece is one of a kind

Most of our sarees are single, handwoven pieces — distinct in colour, design, length, width and weight. When one finds you, it is unlikely to return. So if a saree truly calls to you, trust that feeling; more often than not, it is meant to be yours.
